WHAT IS THE UTERUS? The uterus is also known as the womb. The uterus is the main place where the fetus grows. Thus, the uterus constitutes a vital part of the female reproductive system. The uterus is pear-shaped and hollow. The diameter of a normal uterus is several centimeters. UTERUS FORMATION Mostly muscles known as myometrium constitute the uterus. The most interior portion of myometrium is called Junctional zone? When this zone thickens during pregnancy; the process is known as adenomyosis. The uterus cavity lining is called endometrium. This lining is peeled off during menstruation. Parametrium is the surrounding tissues which are generally loose. UTERUS LOCATION The uterus is located between the rectum and the bladder within the pelvic region. The uterus is the place where the baby grows up. UTERUS SECTIONS The eight different sections of a uterus are cervix, corpus, fundus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, tissues, endometrium and myometrium. The first three basically refer to various portions of the uterus. The cervix is the lower portion of the uterus. The corpus is the middle portion of the uterus. It is broad in size and expanse. The fundus is the top portion of the uterus. It remains in the shape of a dome. The others five are ancillary sections of the uterus. The fallopian tubes stretch till the ovaries.
